Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” kisses the top spot on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart (dated Aug. 29), lifting two places to No. 1.
Rodrigo earns her third Pop Airplay leader, following “Drivers License,” which reigned for five weeks beginning in March 2021, and “Good 4 U,” a No. 1 for six weeks starting that July. Both of those songs were released from her first LP, Sour.
“Drop Dead” is from Rodrigo’s third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.
(“Drop Dead” continues a macabre, but up-tempo and catchy, mode atop pop playlists. It dethrones Tame Impala and JENNIE’s “Dracula” after six nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1.)
Rodrigo is also scaling Pop Airplay with a second song from her new set as “Stupid Song” holds at its No. 17 high. She boasts eight top 10s at the format dating to her debut with “Drivers License.” The collection’s “The Cure” is also drawing play among reporters to the chart.
Pop Airplay ranks the most played titles on nearly 150 U.S. mainstream top 40 stations, as monitored by Mediabase (which provides airplay data to Luminate for Billboard’s radio rankings).
“Drop Dead” launched as Rodrigo’s fourth No. 1 on the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100 (dated May 2). Already the first artist to debut the lead singles from her first two studio albums atop the chart, she extended her mark thanks to “Drop Dead” and you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which, released on Geffen/Interscope Capitol, premiered at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in June. “Drivers License” ushered in Sour and “Vampire” (a No. 2 Pop Airplay hit) introduced 2023’s Guts.
All charts dated Aug. 29 will update on Billboard.com Tuesday, Aug. 25.
