Snoop Dogg’s upcoming biopic has found its The Notorious B.I.G.
Biggie will be played by SwayvoTwain (born Michael D’Angelo Archer II), the son of late R&B stars D’Angelo and Angie Stone.
The Universal Pictures film Snoop is set to hit U.S. theaters on Aug. 6, 2027. Despite being on opposite sides of the East Coast-West Coast rivalry, there was a mutual respect between Snoop and Biggie, who were friendly in the mid-’90s.
“It’s all good baby, BABYYY,” Swayvo wrote on Instagram on Tuesday (Sept. 8), confirming the news first reported by Variety about his involvement in the film. In addition to acting, SwayvoTwain is also a recording artist, as the 29-year-old’s last single arrived in February with “HookahSmoke.”
Hustle & Flow‘s Craig Brewer is directing Snoop, while 8 Mile producer Brian Grazer is producing the film with the West Coast rap deity.
Snoop Dogg is the latest rapper to recieve the biopic treatment in the hip-hop world, as 2Pac, Biggie, Eminem, 50 Cent and N.W.A have all had movies at least loosely based on their lives.
Variety also revealed that Bentley Green will play Death Row rapper RBX and G Perico is slated to star as Big Reecie Cup, who was an integral figure that guided Snoop Dogg’s rise in Long Beach.
Much of the Snoop cast has been revealed, with Jonathan Daviss playing Snoop Dogg, Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Lauren London as Snoop’s mother Beverly Tate, Camron Jones as 2Pac, Tre Hale as Suge Knight and Warren G played by Algee Smith.
Snoop Dogg collaborated with Biggie following his death in March 1997, as Snoop has appeared on all three B.I.G. posthumous albums.
Born Again‘s “Dangerous MC’s” boasts Snoop alongside Busta Rhymes and Marc Curry. The 1999 album gave the Brooklyn rap legend a posthumous No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Snoop and Biggie also collided on Duets: The Final Chapter (“Living the Life”) and The King & I with Faith Evans (“When We Party”).
